GODLY PLAY
Parent Information

We are so pleased to have your child/children in our Godly Play program and hope that the information provided here will help make this a good experience for all.

  1. Church school begins at 9:45.

  2. Once the session has started it is important that there is as little disruption as possible in order to help the children stay focused in a Sacred space. We ask if you are late that you knock softly on the door and wait for the doorkeeper to open the door and let your child in. The doorkeeper will help to integrate your child into the session.

  3. We hope that your child will feel welcome and comfortable in our Godly Play rooms. If you would like to see the rooms and discuss the program, please ask; a teacher will gladly show you the worship space after church. Please say your goodbyes at the door, and know that the teachers are ready to make the next hour a safe and welcoming time for every child. Sometimes the youngest children may need the reassurance of a parent during the first visit or two. If your child needs you to stay, please ask about the etiquette of the classroom.

  4. Godly Play is not a traditional Sunday school program. Rather Godly Play helps children learn by experiencing the Bible stories, wondering about their meaning and discovering what the stories mean to them in their lives. There are also stories that help them to learn about the Church and the service. Watch the Messenger for the stories that will be told each week and for questions to ask your child to continue the conversation with them at home.

  5. Also keep in mind that children will not always be able to show you a physical product from the “work” that day, because some of what they’ve learned cannot be put in to words even by adults. In Godly Play, we focus on our relationship with God and the depths of relationships in the community of children.

Please feel free to ask question of our teachers or clergy at anytime.
