Lit By God’s Light:
The Windows of Trinity Church

Contemporary Windows

There are two contemporary designs, markedly different from the traditional designs, but the colors are magnificent.  One is on the eastern wall, and the other on the western wall, catching the rising and setting sun, sending shafts of light as bright as jewels into the church.

The Olmstead Window (1981)
Olmstead

Donated by Rev. Olmstead’s grand-children, this is the most contemporary window, depicting scenes of Jesus blessing children, the descent of the Holy Spirit, and the babe with swaddling clothes. Rev. Olmstead was Rector for 21 years.

Duncan Niles Terry

The rising sun shines through the Olmstead window into a darkened church, casting a diagonal shaft of light on the cupboard door which holds food for the hungry, as if the light comes from heaven teaching about sharing and giving.

The Eleanor Witherspoon Cornell Window (1960)

Eleanor Witherspoon Cornell

This depicts a scene of the Holy Spirit hovering over Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. The window was donated by Thomas Cornell in memory of his mother.
