The Windows of Trinity Church

Tiffany Windows

During Trinity’s formative years, Tiffany Windows were in vogue, and 3 were gifted in memory of loved ones.  They are considered to be the jewels.  Glass can resemble gems, adding to the overall brilliance of the windows. In fact, Louis Comfort Tiffany’s inspiration was watching his parents create art with jewelry.  It was reported that Louis Tiffany attended the installation of both windows donated by Alice Lanphier Parker.  Tiffany’s studio was in New York.

The Alden and Ellen Young Window (1910)
Alden and Ellen Young

This is the oldest Tiffany window, depicting a Standing Angel.  It bears the same inscription, Psalm 100-4, which is on the top step of the church entrance: “Enter Into His Gates With Thanksgiving and Into His Courts With Praise."

The St. Luke Window (1915)
St. Luke Widow

This is one of a pair of Tiffany windows donated by Alice Lanphier Parker.  This one was in memory of her son, Dr Frank Parker, who was a physician, and often gave services to the poor without remuneration.

There are three medallions; one depicts St. Luke as an evangelist walking through a field of lilies, healing a blind child. The upper medallion depicts an angel bearing a shield with the emblem of St. Luke.

The Te Deum Laudamus Window (1915)
Te Deum Laudaumus

This is the second of the pair of Tiffany windows donated by Alice Lanphier Parker.  Alice sang in the choir and her favorite canticle was Te Deum.

The medallions depict an angel, Jesus with children, and Jesus as a priest.
